WE COULD ALL USE A BIT OF COMPASSION

This is a very 'spur of the moment' and an impromptu post but I felt that I had to write this.

What triggered this was the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry interview with Oprah, which I believe we are all more or less familiar with. This interview was quite triggering for me and maybe other people as well, more especially when Meghan revealed her suicidal thoughts. You might have watched the whole interview or seen certain clips from it. Shortly after I watched the interview, I saw this image that was posted by someone on Twitter (inserted below)

I think this has to be one of the few "deep" things that have come out of this whole thing. This is an important thing to highlight because a lot of people post, tweet and comment to practice their freedom of speech- which is not a bad thing- however, it becomes problematic when it is in a distasteful manner.

I could mention a few recent incidents that show the lack of empathy and understanding. Megan Thee Stallion!!!( Yes, we are definitely going there), she was shot in the foot by Tory Lanez. Many people did not believe, protect nor intend to listen to her because they wanted evidence. When she- a victim- provided that evidence she still received backlash and doubt. The Gender Based Violence that infests this country every day is another example. There is always that one person or a group that will dispute whether this ( whatever incident) actually happened, which is actually flabbergasting. Just yesterday i watched a heart wrenching IGTV by @Jackie_Phamotse where she said,

"Be kinder to people who have experienced Gender Based Violence, this is not a story or a movie they are telling you"
"Don't be so quick to nullify our truth because it does not suit the standards of your classifications of rape"

this broke my heart because people catergorize what depression should look like, what sexual assault should look like, what rape, anxiety etc should look like. I am sick.

So I plead, be compassionate and listen to victims. Be careful what you write on the internet because Meghan Markle, Megan Thee Stallion or any other victim will probably not see your comment, but I will be seeing that, your sister or brother who suffers from anxiety will be seeing that. Your friend who might have been sexually assaulted or slut shamed will be seeing that, your cousin who might be suffering from suicidal thoughts will be seeing that. You never know who is seeing what you post, maybe that friend who suffers with depression was soooo close to confide in you about their mental battle but saw what you said because "depression is not real" right?

So, if you do not have anything constructive, sympathetic to say, rather not speak. Do not force an opinion on something that you have never experienced, you do not know what and how many relationships you are ruining as a result of your lack of emotional intelligence.

BE KINDER.
